|Title||Capstone Designe Project (CDP) in Civil Engineering|
Capstone projects have emerged as very important technique to help students integrate curricular material and gain valuable experience in "real world" problems that better prepares them for professional practice. Design projects can deepen student understanding, aid in long-term retention of knowledge, and provide valuable opportunities to interact with classmates, faculty, alumni and engineers in professional practice.
The objective of the Capstone Design Project is the integration of a group of fourth year civil engineering courses around a central design project. The hope is to create one "real world" central design project that incorporates all of these domains and connects the student with real issues, problems, decisions and process as they complete the design project. The courses are Civil 400, 403, 410 and 430. These courses cover engineering economics, foundation design, concrete structure design and construction engineering and management.
