Project Summary | The main objective of this project is to improve the opportunities for graduate students to present their own research, something that is vital for their professional and academic development. The project will begin with a one year trial period, at the end of which the program’s success will be evaluated. If successful, we may request further funding from the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund, as well as other sources. The project would succeed in this goal through a three-focus approach. The first focus would be on increasing funding for graduate students to travel to conferences. This would occur through two mechanisms: by increasing by half the travel funding available through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, and by creating a new fund for graduate student conference attendance. The second focus would see the level of interdisciplinary graduate student involvement increased by holding a conference. This conference will provide an excellent opportunity for graduate students from all disciplines to showcase their work and to gain valuable presentation experience. The third focus would see the creation of internal conference funding for graduate student-led conferences. The above opportunities will be open to all graduate students, both domestic and international. |
