| Project Summary | Previous TLEF grants supporting technology coaches in each cohort, mobile carts of wireless laptops, and instructor workshops have moved the Faculty of Education from piloting to mainstreaming effective approaches to the use of learning technologies in the on-campus component of our teacher education program. The current proposal will extend the use of learning technologies to the 13-week school practicum. The objective will be to provide a supportive environment for our preservice teachers to put into practice in the community what they have learned on campus. The proposed activities will ensure an engagement with learning technologies throughout the whole BEd program. They will also provide a valuable contribution to the professional development of teachers in schools and to the education of children. In tum, the professional development of teachers will provide a richer practicum environment for student teachers in future years. Building on the success of the on-campus technology coaches, we will develop a program of "technology rangers" who will work in schools with their fellow student teachers and with participating school staff to provide a supportive, technology-rich environment. Building on the successful workshops for instructors, we will develop instructors' skills in supporting the student teachers' technology use in the practicum classrooms. |
