Project Summary | Health care is becoming more complex, demanding a better understanding of business concepts from managers and practitioners. Analytical concepts such as efficiency, optimal resource allocation, opportunity cost and decision rules are difficult to explain in abstract terms, especially to students without prior business or analytical background. For this purpose, we developed a suite of research-based teaching games to illustrate the main challenges and issues that arise from capacity allocation and scheduling problems in health care and to introduce analytical methodologies to address them. Preliminary versions of these games have been used by the applicants on several occasions in MBA, EMBA and BCOM courses at the Sauder School of Business, and by colleagues at other universities. This proposal seeks to implement these games on web-based platforms in order to enhance their effectiveness and accessibility as teaching tools that bridge the gap between advanced analytical methods and real-world problems. |
