Project Summary

This project co-creates Indigenous-informed curriculum and community learning models that connect Indigenous knowledge systems with sustainable innovations in bio-based materials. It will launch a new course, Living Knowledge: Indigenous Wisdom in Scientific Practice, integrate Indigenous-focused modules into existing Applied Science courses; co-led with Jules Hamilton and Stakaya, who have provided direct support and ongoing partnership and deliver co-designed community workshops in partnership with the Urban Native Youth Association (UNYA) and other Indigenous leaders. Outcomes include open educational resources (OER), a practical toolkit for communities and educators, and a framework for ethical Indigenous-university collaborations. Students will gain experience through interdisciplinary, land-based, and culturally relevant learning opportunities. This work contributes directly to UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan and Sustainability Plan, building capacity for transformative and inclusive STEM education. By centering Indigenous voices, fostering respectful co-design, and creating scalable, accessible resources, this project builds enduring bridges between the university and Indigenous communities.
