Year 1: Summary

Objectives:

To create a set of integrated, multimedia computer-assisted language learning materials and related websites for UBC's BA and MA curriculum in Korean as a Foreign Language (KFL).

Rationale:

Few KFL teaching materials are available commercially, and most are of a poor quality. There are almost no useful computer-assisted language learning (CALL) packages available for KFL at the university level. Our project builds on eight years of preparatory work, and will be of value beyond UBC.

Methods:

  1. Use of WEBct (WEB course tool) to create Web-based materials for KORN 102, 200 and 300.
  2. Use of GALT (Glossing Authentic Language Texts) program to create Hypertext-linked
Authentic Korean Reading Materials for KORN 410,411 and 583.
  3. Use of LIBRA to create CALL software for Authentic Korean Video for use in Korean 200, 300 and 415.
