Project Summary

Tort law—the law of “wrongs”—is a compulsory law school course. It is typically taught from commercially published books. In 2021, I published Tort Law: Cases and Commentaries, https://canlii.ca/t/t9st, an online open-access Canadian tort law casebook. This prototype resource has revealed demand for open-access law school teaching resources—including torts materials—and illustrates the feasibility of using technology to create learning materials that surpass the content and scope of what existing resources offer. My project will create a new package of open tort law resources designed to expose first-year and upper-level students to common law torts in a global context. It will comprise:

  1. a wiki commentary/textbook on common law torts,
  2. a new global/comparative tort law casebook, and
  3. tie-in self-assessment quizzes and exercises with explanatory feedback.

These resources will be designed for use in multiple Allard Law courses and in law schools around Canada and the world.
