Project Summary

A Communicating Across the Curriculum (CxC) program will go beyond supporting instructors and teaching assistants using academic writing assignments in their science courses by also supporting non-traditional communication assignments, such as blogging, producing podcasts and videos, and writing press releases. It will also expand to include support for implementing oral presentations or oral exams in classes. CxC is a natural progression of both our current Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program and the resources developed and made available through Science Writing Resources for Learning (ScWRL), which are already being used in SCIE 113, SCIE 300, BIOL 140, and other courses. This project will support faculty, teaching assistants, and students. For faculty and TAs we will offer resources and training on designing, implementing, assessing, and evaluating non-traditional communication assignments and oral communication. For students, we will compile technical and strategic support for communication tools as well as support for oral communication.
