The anatomy of the pelvis is complex and difficult to understand for learners due to its complex 3D geometry, the layered pelvic walls, and the sexual diversity of the pelvis and perineum. Textbook representations of the pelvis and perineum appear flat and the 3D relationships can be difficult to understand and relate to clinical exams and interventions. This project will combine 3D printing technology with augmented reality through mobile devices to create an interactive learning application for the anatomy of the pelvis. A small pocket-sized 3D printed pelvis will provide the haptic cue for spatial understanding of this complex anatomy. The augmented reality app will allow the learner to dynamically add 3D objects and visualize them on the 3D printed pelvis. The learner can rotate the 3D printed pelvis freely and see the anatomy from all angles while in full control of the content visualized.
