Year 1: Summary

The Food and Resource Economics (FRE) group in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems (LFS) is developing or revamping two rigorous interdisciplinary programs that address current world challenges. They have identified two gaps in the current FRE courses: 1) the lack of undergraduate data analysis courses focusing on environmental and resource economics and 2) the lack of graduate-level classes in advanced theory, empirical methods and applications currently used in the field of environmental and resource economics. To fill these gaps they will develop four new FRE courses. Two undergraduate courses (FRE 226 and FRE 426) focusing on data analysis and two advanced graduate courses one in microeconomics and another in econometrics (FRE 601 and 602). With the TLEF funding six graduate academic assistants (GAA) will help develop class material and create online accessibility to course materials.

Year 2: Summary

FRE faculty have identified gaps in current FRE courses: 1) the lack of undergraduate data analysis courses focusing on environmental and resource economics and 2) the lack of graduate-level classes in advanced theory, empirical methods and applications currently used in the field of environmental and resource economics. They have also recognized the need to be known on campus and elsewhere as providers of such content. To address this the FRE group has proposed several new FRE courses, and is expanding online content for new and existing courses. Two new courses will be supported in their development by the continuation of this TLEF grant, and one existing course will be enhanced with online educational materials. We will evaluate the benefit of all new and old courses supported using this TLEF funding.
