Project Summary

The new Manufacturing Engineering undergraduate program, first offered in 2019, is a multi-campus program that engages students at both UBC Vancouver (MANU program) and UBC Okanagan (MANF program), supporting up to 300 students across two campuses across three academic years. Currently there are no options for the program, with all students largely following the same course schedule. Data science is a burgeoning discipline that is becoming increasingly essential in industry practice. Recognizing a need, Manufacturing Engineering formed an intercampus Data Subcommittee to explore the incorporation of additional data science themes and concepts into the programs. We propose to accomplish this through:

  1. Curricular renovation: Introducing key learning outcomes and sample content into courses in every semester of the programs.
  2. Data in manufacturing option: Introducing a new option to the programs.
  3. Infrastructure and technology: Providing industry-relevant technology and tools to facilitate learning.
