Project Summary

Implementing engineering design principles in a safe and environmentally sustainable manner is a critical component of developing integrous and accountable engineering professionals. This project aims to build an intrinsic appreciation for these values in our students through deliberate program-wide design course instruction within engineering programs in the Faculty of Applied Science.

This project will integrate real-world industry experiences and reference materials for engineering sustainability and safety best practices into 2nd - 4th year design courses within Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Manufacturing Engineering. The project will enhance students’ life-long learning through early introduction of safety and sustainability concepts and continuing to emphasize and build on these concepts throughout the undergraduate design courses. The ultimate goal of the project is the practical implementation of these critical engineering competencies as students collaborate with industry and community organizations in their final year Capstone projects and as they continue on their future career paths.
