Project Summary

As society broadens its understanding of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression (SOGIE), its healthcare institutions should reflect this growth. Today’s healthcare professionals must develop knowledge of gender diversity and its intersection with sexual orientation and associated experiences, histories, and language to provide quality patient care. This project integrates SOGIE throughout the four-year E2P PharmD curriculum to build 2SLGBTQQIA+ competency amongst pharmacy students and enable students to provide quality care to 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities. This project will:

  1. Scaffold SOGIE in mandatory courses: PHRM 100/270/441.
  2. Embed SOGIE into integration activities across PY1-3.
  3. Pilot a PY3 elective course (PHRM 3XX) that examines the historical and contemporary contexts of 2SLGBTQQIA+ health.
  4. Build capacity with community partners by developing PHRM 473 2SLGBTQQIA+ community-engaged learning practicums.
  5. Establish the Queer Curriculum Advisory Committee, which invites members of 2SLGBTQQIA+ communities, student body and University to support the development, implementation, and evaluation of (1)-(4).
