Project Summary

The UBCV-School of Nursing (SoN) was recently charged by the Ministry of Advanced Education to increase undergraduate student admissions by 25%, in 2022. Dire nursing shortages are adversely affecting the quality of Canadian healthcare delivery. To provide high quality nursing education efficiently and effectively, we have used different levels of simulation. Simulation allowed us to accommodate more students, particularly during COVID-19 when appropriate practice sites and experienced nurse mentors are lacking. Although simulation holds great promise, it is a unique form of education, and students and faculty need adequate support and preparation to optimize their learning/teaching experiences.

The purpose of this project is to expand and evaluate a comprehensive simulation program that includes faculty development and full integration of simulation into clinical skills and competencies (lab) and practice learning courses across the BSN curriculum.
