Project Summary

Purpose: AMS Tutoring Service is a student service provided by the Alma Mater Society (AMS) and is implemented entirely by students. Tutors and coordinators are UBC students, offering tutoring services targeted at undergraduate students. One-on-one tutoring is provided free of charge and it aims to help students refine learning and study skills, to improve overall course work performance, and to ease the adjustment to new academic demands of university life.

Objectives:

  1. To provide students with accessible, free, quality tutoring services at convenient times and locations.
  2. To provide undergraduate students (primarily first year) will assistance in adjusting to the academic demands of University.
  3. To provide undergraduate students with study and learning skills to enhance their academic performance.
  4. To provide teaching opportunities and employment to senior students on a regular basis.
  5. To directly provide students with part-time jobs related to their academic pursuits.
  6. To improve access to tutoring opportunities outside of the AMS Tutoring Service program through the established Tutor Registry.
