Project Summary

The cross-disciplinary Cognitive Systems Program (CSP) brings together students and educators from at least two Faculties (Arts and Science) and four Departments (Computer Science, Psychology, Philosophy and Linguistics). Our objective is to develop learning modules and discussion platforms on the world-wide-wed so that (a) the intellectual synergy created by the confluence of inter-disciplinary interactions will be harnessed and shared among all participants, and (b) the program develops in a manner that is cutting-edge, coherent and highly responsive to the needs of the students and educators.

These objectives will be achieved in two ways.

  1. The development of an interdisciplinary computer-based world-wide-web platform for discussing, debating, teaching, and learning about issues in Cognitive Systems. In this case, thee goal is to spring-board the implementation of the new program in Cognitive Systems by bringing together, to a common platform, students and educators interested in studying mind-brain relations from different and complementary perspectives [e.g., the science of cognitive systems to artificial neural networks (Computer Science), and the implications of human and artificial mind-brain relations (Philosophy).
  2. The development of computer-based learning modules in Cognitive Systems accessible on the world-wide-web. These modules will initially be provided in two touchstone courses in the new CSP: (1) COGS 200: “Introduction to Cognitive Systems” is the entry level course of the CSP, and (2) COGS 400 “Special Topics in Cognitive Systems” is the capstone course for the CSP.
