Project Summary

This project aims to design and develop a set of 10 online mini-learning modules for the mandatory course, EDUC 440: Indigenous Education Canada, that all teacher candidates take as part of their professional certification in the Bachelor of Education program in the Faculty of Education. The ten modules will form course instruction for the preparation of secondary school teachers who will now take this required course in Term 2 of their program, beginning January 2021. Modules will be designed to complement face-to-face teaching of this course, engaging innovative practices that support online learning for large and smaller section classes in varied flipped classroom learning modes, while attending to Indigenous pedagogies and perspectives in online learning environments.

Expected changes from this project include: the improvement of traditional online coursework through Indigenous pedagogical approaches and perspectives; enhancing learning for Indigenous and rural/remote pre-service teachers; and creating a relational model of teaching in large enrolment courses through online digital activities and assessment.
