Project Summary | (WHAT?) PICTURES is a portable image capture and analysis work station that can be used to supplement the visual learning experiences of students in classes and laboratories in the Faculty of Forestry. (WHY?) While different students exhibit personal preferences in their style of learning, our experience has been that many of our students respond best to well-prepared, relevant visual learning aids. While macroscopic visual aids are often available, many of the concepts and phenomena being discussed in classes and laboratories are often of a smaller scale nature. (HOW?) The workstation will enable students to capture images (using regular, macroscopic and microscopic lenses) in laboratory sessions to save them to their own computer file storage space on the Forest Science Centre undergraduate computer server. The images will then be available for students to view, analyze, perform measurements, annotate and print at a later time. The workstation will also be used for demonstrations in classes making use of the many well-connected (wired) classrooms and laboratories in the Forest Sciences Centre and Centre for Advanced Wood Processing. |
