| Project Summary | Using a learning management system (e.g. WebCT) the proposed project will create an interactive teaching tool consisting of a virtual tour of 4-5 sites illustrating different land-use practices on UBC campus and adjacent Pacific Spirit Park and couple problem-based learning cases that will compare impacts of land-use practices on soil quality. We will compile soil quality data gathered in 1970 on UBC campus and Pacific Spirit Park with data to be gathered in 2007 at the same sites. This data will be used to create a virtual tour combining video, photography, archival photographs and possibly virtual reality panomovies that will be utilized in nine UBC (AGRO 401-403, 260, 361, SOIL 501-503, and FRST 201) and four non-UBC courses. Additionally, the data will be used to develop several interactive study cases using online discussion tools (such as blogs and other social software) that will enhance collaborative and reflective student learning about soil processes and properties. |
