Year 1: Summary | This project will enhance student learning by developing student-centered curricula using modern pedagogical techniques focused on creating a campus-wide sustainable food system. The Centre for Sustainable Food Systems (CSFS) provides agriculture, food, and health-related learning, research, and community service programs at the 24-hectare USC Farm on South Campus. The Centre's range of existing interdisciplinary programs and its varied landscape provide an excellent venue to meet the growing student need for more experiential learning, community service learning, links to research, and connections between theory and practice. This project will achieve its objectives by hiring student leaders to engage faculty, community members, and their peers to facilitate field activities for existing credit courses, integrate new directed studies, develop internship and research opportunities on the site, and involve students with new and existing community service projects. |
