| Project Summary | The Natural Resources Conservation - Global Perspectives Major is a new interdisciplinary program designed to prepare students for careers in conservation and sustainable management of natural resources in a global context. This program evolved from our regionally focused NRC degree, in response to student interest and TREK 2010 goals. The final-year capstone course reviews and integrates knowledge gained during earlier studies and international experience. In the central project within this course students will work in small groups using spatial and nonspatial datasets to examine societal development, governance and institutional capacity, resource sustainability in a small country with significant conservation and development challenges. To deliver this module, we need to acquire and prepare datasets for the countries of interest and write a set of tutorials that guide the students through successive stages in the project and how to use and apply geographic information systems, image processing, and trade-off analysis tools. |
