| Project Summary | The Art History graduate symposium is an annual two-day event intended to bring together graduate students from a variety of disciplines and universities to present scholarly research. First organized in 1981, the entirely student run conference was a unique function that set a trend for similar efforts across North America. This year, the graduate symposium committee is planning to enhance the symposium's traditional structure in order to encourage a greater interdisciplinary participation. This aim is achieved in two ways: First, in conjunction with the conference, out proposed theme of "Obsolete Concepts" will be explored in an exhibition showing the works of UBC students from the departments of Visual Arts and Architecture. Second, the essays presented at the conference will be published in a special print issue of the student journal Wreck. Keynote addresses will be delivered by Regis Michel, chief curator at the Louvre, and international artist Andrea Fraser. |
