Year 1: Summary | This project will solicit outstanding work by undergraduate and graduate students and will make it available online through cIRcle, UBC’s Information Repository (circle.ubc.ca). cIRcle, a new Library project, is a digital archive for disseminating and preserving UBC’s intellectual output. It will include faculty research and teaching materials, theses and dissertations, etc. The goal of this TLEF project is to identify, solicit, and digitize (if needed) outstanding work by undergraduate students and non-thesis work by graduate students. A specialized portion of the project will focus on material about British Columbia, which will be linked to related print collections of student work already in the Library. We would like to digitize parts of the latter. We will showcase student work online while highlighting UBC research to the world at large. This project will also educate students about digital copyright issues, and about the importance of online dissemination and preservation of student work. |

Year 2: Summary | This project continues the 2008/09 project (progress report attached) of soliciting outstanding work by undergraduate and graduate students and making this work available online through clRcle, USC's Information Repository (circle.ubc.ca). clRcle is a digital archive for disseminating and preserving USC's intellectual output. It includes faculty research and teaching materials, theses and dissertations, etc. Student work to be deposited in clRcle is selected by the academic units. It could include, for example, honours essays or theses, Masters graduating projects, or joint research projects involving students and faculty. Through workshops and presentations, this project educates students about digital copyright issues, and the importance of online dissemination and preservation of student work. The student hired for the project raises awareness of clRcle by participating in events such as Celebrate Learning Week, Undergraduate Research Opportunities events, SciTeam Get Into Research night, and the Student Leadership Summit. The project student works with liaison librarians and academic units to identify outstanding student work for deposit in clRcle. |
