Project Summary | The University of British Columbia (UBC) has the second largest collection of soil monoliths (i.e., soil display models) in Canada, which is currently under-utilized in teaching because of its display and storage status. The objective of the proposed project is to develop an interactive, web-based teaching tool that will combine existing teaching resources (soil monoliths), which have a limited access to UBC's learning community, with recently developed virtual soil science teaching resources. The tool will enhance the value and usability of existing teaching resources, since it will be relevant for at least 550 UBC and 450 non-UBC students per year in areas of soil science, forestry, agriculture, physical geography, and environmental science. The proposed product will enhance teaching and learning by (1) providing better integration of historic soil science resources (monoliths) into undergraduate and graduate teaching, (2) increasing learner accessibility, and (3) offering interactive student learning activities. |
