| Project Summary | Forestry education is currently undergoing a crisis. Many forestry schools have responded by broadening their curricula to include natural resources conservation, but this is not alleviating the critical shortage of trained foresters. The objective of this international course is to encourage students to study forests by using state-of-the-art web-based technologies that demonstrate the range of issues covered by modem forest management and the opportunities for diverse, well-paid and satisfying careers in this area. A feature of this course is its international nature. Particular emphasis will be placed on the importance of forests for people, reflecting the priorities of modem forest management internationally. The course will be web-based and will be made available through the participating universities. It will be particularly important to UBC, as the Faculty of Forestry traditionally has the greatest number of forestry students of the universities involved, and by far the largest teaching staff. |
