Project Summary

This project will provide the technological infrastructure to support the advancement of musicianship in performing musicians and aspiring conductors in the UBC School of Music. Through the use of the latest digital audio and video recording technology to document student work in ensembles and conducting courses, and the distribution of the resulting digital content in an interactive online environment, faculty and students will be able to engage in critical analysis and discussion of performance behaviours well beyond the confines of the concert hall and classroom. In addition to the use of new technologies in a group setting, the project will include the creation of a Digital Technology Library from which individual students and faculty members may borrow from a collection of tuners, metronomes, and portable audio/video recorders. By allowing students to hear and see themselves in the act of performing during every stage of the rehearsal process, both as individuals and ensemble members, the project will greatly enhance the learning of all students in the School of Music.
