Project Summary | We will create the first of two inter-professional modules on Patient Safety and Resilience using the proven format of the College of Health Discipline’s inter-professional Pain Management Course (TLEF funded). After 2-3 hours of individual online orientation, medical, nursing, pharmacy and other health science students will meet for a one-hour introduction, rehearsal of a disclosure and apology, and assignment to inter-professionally balanced groups of three or four students. During three hours of online collaboration, each group will develop a checklist for an inter-professional response to a patient safety incident portrayed in a video. They will demonstrate use of their checklist in a face-to-face presentation to other groups. With student assistance, the project will: a) assemble multimedia orientation materials including videos on patient safety incidents, b) test the disclosure/apology checklist, c) develop, test and revise the checklist exercise and student assessment method, and d) pilot, evaluate and revise the module. |
