Project Summary

PSYC 217 Research Methods ensures all of our Psychology Majors “do the discipline” of psychology. Since W2008T1, students in all sections of PSYC 217 have completed a group research project, which culminates in individual APA-style research papers and (since W2010T1) a group poster presentation across all sections (initially about 500 per cohort; 720 current cohort).

This proposal seeks to engage in the first-ever systematic enhancement of this student research experience. We have three priorities: to create common learning objectives to frame this common assignment; to create a Training Module to help all TAs calibrate grading to our common rubric; and to create a customized lab guide (using Canvas Modules) that scaffolds the student experience throughout the group project, including idea generation, data collection, analysis, paper, poster presentation, and support for group dynamics. Student learning will be more clearly framed, evaluated, and supported by this trio of outcomes.
