| Project Summary | UBC Orbit is competing in the Canadian Satellite Design Challenge (CSDC).This national competition’s goal is to design a low cost nano-satellite with a worthy scientific payload. Orbit’s payload, in collaboration with UBC’s PHAS department, will aid the CHIME project in mapping the early expansion of the universe. The successful team(s)’ satellite(s) are projected to launch in Spring 2014. UBC Orbit is UBC’s only space-oriented student team. As such, undergraduate and graduate students from multiple disciplines benefit by attaining valuable hands-on design, implementation and fabrication experience. We have proven success in placing 2nd out of 14 teams across Canada in the 1st round of competition. Orbit will constitute UBC’s foundation for future space competitions such as the NASA Centennial Challenge. TLEF funding will allow us to continue our goals of fostering the growth of space-oriented student teams, while expanding to the creation of Directed Studies materials to allow students to pursue space design for course credit. |
