| Project Summary | This project revolves around an innovative one-week long venture consisting of a robotics competition and ‘camp’ for competitors, taking place in June at UBC Vancouver. The sessions and workshops surrounding the competition, will not only attract some of brightest minds in the field of robotics from all over the world as participants, but will also further promote the engagement of the UBC and the greater communities in the activities of the Faculty of Applied Science. While robotics competitions take place around lhe world yearly, this competition is exceptionally unique: first, this is the first time that a RoboCup (Robocup is one of the most prestigious robotics activities in the world) event - at the university level - is taking place in Canada and second, this competition happens a week before the World Championship which is taking place in Mexico City and will be complemented by a one of a kind week-long ‘camp’, including a number of workshops and seminars which attracts members of the UBC and the greater communities. Three students will be hired to plan and execute this grand adventure which leads to strengthening the existing relationship between the Faculty and the community, while significantly increasing the chances of Canada’s success in bidding to hosting the RoboCup 2014. |
