Project Summary | Health inequities in Canada and globally challenge nursing’s commitment to social justice. Educating for equity, citizenship and respectful relations in nursing and health care is fundamental to redressing inequities and facilitating human flourishing across the life span. Because optimal health is achieved through physical, mental and social well being, nurse educators must thoughtfully design and deliver curricula that engage all students in learning about the roots of inequity and the responsibilities of health professionals in relation to these within the context of health and health care. In the UBC undergraduate and graduate nursing programs, teaching and learning of these concepts is yet to be fully realized, requiring innovation and action. The research team, made up of students and faculty, will design, implement and test the impact of a group of transformative education interventions on faculty’s and students’ teaching and learning experiences and processes related to equity citizenship and respectful relations. |
