Project Summary

As patients and healthcare settings become more complex, on-site practice education is not always sufficient to prepare nursing students and new nurses for practice. On-site practice education is becoming increasingly supplemented and enhanced with simulation education. Practice-academic collaborations provide excellent opportunities to share simulation education resources and expertise. This proposal represents collaboration between the UBC School of Nursing, Providence and Vancouver Coastal Health Authorities’ nursing education departments. Our focus is students and new nurses because schools of nursing and health authorities’ nursing departments typically share responsibility for student and new nurse preparation. Our project purpose is to develop a collaborative simulation education program to increase simulation education capacity for our nursing students and new nurses. We will collaborate with UBC nursing faculty, practice educators and students to develop, implement and evaluate practice-based simulations.
