|Workspace: Helping students optimize their time management when looking for study space by visualizing real-time occupancy levels of UBC buildings
This project will build a mobile application that analyzes wireless data from electronic devices in real time to visualize occupancy levels in building for students that are searching for study space. This will be achieved by accessing anonymized wireless data from Cisco location analytics currently in use by UBC IT. The visualization will be in the form of a percentage based count of individual floors and zones within UBC buildings. This application will deliver a solution to a pain point experienced by UBC students by displaying real-time occupancy data of learning areas across UBC, allowing students to determine where available study space exists. Students are regularly forced to search for study space with a brute force method of searching, a process that can take up to 20 minutes or more. This application plans to solve this recurring issue by providing a tool that visualizes occupancy for all UBC students.
Funding for this project has been split 50/50 between the VP Enrolment and Academic Facilities and the TLEF.
