Project Summary | Technology has become ever present in our society, and this has necessitated a shift in the way that we view education and social interactions. In this project, we explore the viability of mobile technology and the emergence of gaming and mobile applications (Apps) in a post-secondary educational setting. The objective of the proposed study is to develop a game-style educational quest (scavenger hunt), based on the Questogo© platform (website and mobile App), for direct use in two undergraduate courses: APBI 200 – Introduction to Soil Science (offered by the Faculty of Land and Food Systems, UBC) and FRST 201 - Forest Ecology (offered by the Faculty of Forestry, UBC). The quest will focus on soil classification, using forest floor classification as a case study that is relevant for both courses mentioned above, and will be designed as a self-study resource that supports field-based, hands-on laboratory sections of the two courses. |
