Project Summary | This project promotes blended, gamified experiential learning by developing a process to help instructors construct geospatial tours to augment student learning ‘in the field’ in large enrollment Arts courses. Leveraging UBC’s licence for the Motive geospatial platform, we will create content for a location-based experiential learning tool for mobile devices to be used in SOCI 102 and GEOG 122. This project builds on existing geospatial work at UBC by adding gamification and augmented reality components shown to enhance student learning outcomes. As we populate and pilot an asynchronous geospatial tour in these two courses, we will build faculty and student capacity by developing a manual with steps, instructions and templates for geospatial content creation and assessment for wider use. This innovative project is a multidisciplinary collaboration between faculty and students in the Department of Sociology, Department of Geography, Vantage College, the Emerging Media Lab and UBC Studios. |
