Project Summary

Research suggests that educational strategies that increase academic tenacity can positively impact student wellbeing, learning and academic success. This project will focus on promoting academic tenacity - specifically, social belonging, growth mindset, and self-regulation. This project will promote students’ ability to thrive in rigorous academic environments by implementing and assessing various strategies tailored to diverse learning environments, then developing resources, tools and processes that allow for adoption of successful strategies across the University.

The educational strategies will be informed by a past small TLEF project (https://blogs.ubc.ca/teachingandwellbeing/), emerging research in higher education, and existing K-12 literature. Examples of strategies include changes to pedagogy, introduction of mental health literacy into curriculum, and using technology to enhance academic tenacity in online courses. This project will help to promote best practices that align with strategies outlined in the People and Places and Transformative Learning sections of the 2018 Strategic Plan.
