Project Summary | Personal relationships, be it parent-child, friendship or romantic, are an integral part of our lives. Relationships are associated with physical and mental health (Umberson & Montez, 2010), as well as career success (Thomas, Liu & Umberson, 2017). Stakeholder feedback on our departments’ current curricula indicates a strong need for crisis and life skills capacities. Employers are looking for graduates with an understanding of real-world situations and problems. The goal of this project is to conduct video interviews with experts in fields related to relationship science and develop a series of open resources that highlight key theoretical developments, empirical findings and their application in everyday relational situations. These resources will then be incorporated into the development of open course modules/an open course linking students to the academic/professional behind the information they are learning. They will also help in making this expertise openly available to UBC (students and faculty) and beyond. |
