Project Summary | Objectives: To develop teaching models and materials to enhance the ability of health professional students at UBC to engage clients in informed shared decision making (ISDM). Rationale: ISDM is the interactive process by which clients become engaged in making decisions related to their health care. This process requires specific competencies on the part of the health care practitioner and presents challenges when classroom learning is applied to real life. These are neglected areas of current curricula. Recent projects in the Faculty of Medicine have defined the competencies required by physicians., developed a workshop model to teach them and identified barriers to putting ISDM into practice. This project is designed to extend this work to other health care providers. |
