Project Summary
To develop, with the involvement of medical students, a series of Pediatrics-based Powerpoint Lectures during the academic year of 2001-2002.
The objective of this Ready to Go project is the creation a series of educational tools in Pediatrics which can be used in medical trainee self directed study, be available for use at other sites (given the potential distributed model of the medical school expansion plan), and be available on site (BCCH) for the provision of high quality teaching rounds for Pediatric trainees.
The Powerpoint Lecture Series would be available for ongoing self directed student use, including for distance education (during rotations outside of the lower mainland), as well as for lecturer facilitated discussions occurring locally. The rationale for the creation of the Ready to Go Illustrated Powerpoint Lecture Series is that the current Pediatric slide bank available in the UBC Department of Pediatrics is under-utilized by the Pediatric trainees. Further, the slides are not conveniently portable for distance education, nor are they organized in a maximally user friendly format. The proposed Powerpoint Lecture Series will integrate text and visual materials in discrete packages, providing comprehensive overviews on topics in General Pediatrics. These will be available on a compact disc for use in group learning environments as well as local and distance independent study.
