Year 3: Summary
The Third Annual first year student Learning Conference will be held in late October 2010. The CLASS
Conference is an integral part of the academic orientation and transition process of first-year students, integrating with faculty based transition programs and campus wide orientation programs. This conference connects orientation and transition programs, as an extension of Imagine with MUG Leaders reconnecting with their first-year students. This is combined with a series of academic learning skills workshops and support provided thru Peer Academic Coaches, AMS Tutoring and LEAP and other faculty resources. More specifically, it will educate and engage students on the essential academic skills and how to take responsibility to enhance their learning experience. In addition, the conference will be coordinated by a number of peer programs on campus, allowing them to present a diversity of ways of providing support for students, increasing an awareness of the importance of getting involved, balance and wellness. This will further foster an academic learning community at UBC where students a) feel supported by their professors and peers, b) are empowered to gain the confidence to control their academic fUture, and c) where students are provided meaningful peer leadership opportunities.
