Year 1: Summary | In the last twenty years, a tremendous amount of research has been done regarding how students learn. While much is still unknown about this complex process, what is clear is that learning occurs not only inside the classroom, but outside; extra-curricular programs such as cooperative education and internships have been recognized as effective environments in which this learning can occur. With 12000 students, the Faculty of Arts is the largest faculty on campus, yet these students are the least likely to participate in experiential programs. Additionally, our weak NSSE results in creating a supportive campus environment and enriching educational experiences demonstrates that we must be doing a better job of supporting our students in their growth, and connecting them to innovative learning opportunities. Providing students in the Faculty of Arts with the opportunity to participate in an internship is a step in the right direction. |
