| Project Summary | Interprofessional education (IPE), embedded in our undergraduate Doctor of Pharmacy Program and UBC Health’s Integrated Curriculum, is aligned with national standards for collaboration competencies. However, our recent project revealed structured, campus-based IPE does not consistently translate into meaningful interprofessional collaboration during experiential learning. Specifically, in 4th-year community pharmacy practicums, student collaborative experiences are physician-centric, often asynchronous (fax), with minimal engagement with other health professionals. This project aims to enhance pharmacy students’ interprofessional collaboration skills in these settings. Using existing data, literature, and key informant input, we will develop educational strategies and tools to promote students’ ability to recognize, seek, and optimize collaborative opportunities. We will integrate short-form video for knowledge construction and update practicum learning outcomes and preceptor support materials for interprofessional competency development. Students will gain actionable collaboration skills, while preceptors will be better equipped to support students’ interprofessional learning and contribution to collaborative care in community pharmacy practice. |
