Project Summary

We propose reimagining the Master of Arts in Children’s Literature (MACL) program to achieve the following: 1) aligning the curriculum with the changing nature of children’s texts and media; 2) broadening the program’s focus and inclusivity; and 3) strengthening graduate employability while extending the program’s societal impact. The anticipated changes will include expanding course offerings and redefining program requirements to better reflect diverse perspectives and lived experiences, strengthening faculty commitment to UBC’s strategic goals, and building program capacity. Central to this work is the integration of Indigenous worldviews, advancing Goal 4 of UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan. The renewed program will strengthen its multidisciplinary foundation through collaboration with other faculties and community partners, thereby enriching the curriculum and fostering meaningful reciprocal impact within and beyond Vancouver. It will ultimately empower graduates with applied expertise to address future challenges in the field, better positioning MACL across Canada and internationally.
