| Project Summary | UBC 23 24* is a required Indigenous Cultural Safety (ICS) curriculum delivered to 13 Health Professional Programs (HPP) at UBC. ICS education seeks to address Indigenous health inequities in the health care system so Indigenous people may experience care that is free from racism and is aligned with Indigenous approaches to health and wellness. Driven by provincial mandates and critical feedback from Indigenous and non-Indigenous students, faculty, and community members, we are launching a transformative curriculum refresh. The primary objective is to prepare students to immediately and effectively apply ICS knowledge/skills in professional practice. This comprehensive update will achieve its goal through four key initiatives: Strengthening Relevance: Integrating intergenerational diversity to reflect practice realities. Deepening Application: Increasing difficulty and embedding robust application-to-practice opportunities. Maximizing Inclusivity: Ensuring full alignment with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and Accessibility Standards. Ensuring Alignment: Solidifying adherence to provincial ICS standards and intended learning outcomes. |
