Project Summary | Working with and for Indigenous communities is a priority in the Faculty of Science and across UBC, as expressed in UBC’s Indigenous Strategic Plan. To achieve this, researchers must be equipped with tools to do this work meaningfully, effectively, and respectfully. The UBC community raised courses and training for developing these tools as a critical need in a survey conducted in 2021 about the development of a related course targeting those already engaged in co-creating aquatic science with Indigenous partners (FISH506i). We will develop a course to prepare those interested in, new to, or already engaged in community-driven science to undertake this work as part of their research, grounded in ethical practice, place and local realities with a focus on partnering with Indigenous communities. The course will equip the IOF and other researchers at UBC with the tools for engaging critically with their research practices. |
