Project Summary

A web-based proof-of-concept prototype will be developed using generative AI (GenAI) to simulate and enhance virtual consultations for pharmacy students to practice history taking, communication, physical assessment, and documentation. This approach will enable pharmacy students to interact with a virtual patient persona for each clinical case. The GENRx Project will contribute toward the enhancement of teaching and learning by using a virtual platform to increase flexibility and accessibility for students, promote active learning and engagement through interactive technology, and improve student confidence and competence in clinical skills. This project's deliverables will enable the development of interactive patient cases using GenAI for courses throughout the Entry-to-Practice PharmD program. Furthermore, this project will provide insight on how a similar approach can be applied to the training of students in other health disciplines (e.g. medicine, nursing, physiotherapy, etc.) as well as programs providing continuing education and training for pharmacists.
