Duration | 1 Year |
Initiation | 04/01/2024 |
Project Summary | Over the years, the UBC Faculty of Dentistry has supported foundational ethics education. In recent times, this commitment has expanded and intensified across the entire duration of dental professionals' education and training. The curriculum includes significant learning experiences using case-based ethical analysis preparing students for dynamic, real-world scenarios involving interactive sessions with clients, often portrayed by actors or through role-playing. These sessions assess students' abilities in effective communication, ethical and professional decision-making, and fostering shared ethical decision processes with clients. The objective is to create a strategic education plan aligning clinical dental ethics with Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) competencies. The aspiration is that students will cultivate their distinct ethics and DEI competencies by delving into the principles of DEI and ethics principles. The aim is to transition principle-based knowledge of ethics and DEI into specific competencies and identify actions supporting DEI principles in clinical settings through case scenarios. |
