| Project Summary | We have an exceptional opportunity to enhance teaching and learning in the Faculty of Forestry and beyond by creating an experiential urban forest demonstration at the UBC Malcolm Knapp Research Forest (MKRF) as part of a major entrance and arboretum redevelopment project. MKRF welcomes over 700 Forestry students annually, who use the arboretum as a starting place to practice core skills. We propose to enhance the existing arboretum by engaging students to create a dedicated tree walk and signage, while further engaging in an innovative design project to envision common urban forest species and treatments for experiential learning of future students, to capture student voices for the final design. The signage includes QR codes, with student created web pages supplementing tree information. The upcoming development of a Welcome and Education Centre at MKRF is opportune for students to help shape the future of their experiential education in a sustainable manner. |
