Title | Enhanced Teaching and Learning of Critical Thinking in the Undergraduate Dental Curricula |
---|---|
Faculty/College/Unit | Dentistry |
Status | Active |
Duration | 2 Year |
Initiation | 04/01/2024 |
Project Summary | The development of Critical Thinking (CT) is a competency required from dental programs’ graduates, and practicing dentists alike. Revised CT education will consist mainly of remote asynchronous online learning supported by in-class Q&A sessions, experiential debating activities, and formative assessment opportunities. The online setting ensures equitable opportunities for students and supports self-directed learning. These innovative diverse learning activities and formative assessment opportunities will facilitate student engagement, thereby potentially increasing their motivation and accountability. Revised learning activities will adopt an Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion lens to allow students to reflect on the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion issues to help students identify and address their unconscious biases. In addition, formative assessment opportunities will facilitate student’ understanding and awareness of their strengths and gaps in their knowledge. The revised content and activities will also be evaluated for its sustainability and applicability into senior years of dental undergraduate programs and into graduate programs. |
