Project Summary

Business Plans are bases for group projects in several introductory business courses (COMM101, COMM120, COMR100) impacting over 1000 commerce and non-commerce students annually. We aim to enhance students’ understanding of different business functions and foster academic integrity by creating a large repository of customizable business plans. These plans will be kept current by updating financials, business names, locations, and owners' backgrounds, while making it harder for students to plagiarize old solutions. Assigning a different business plan for each team will also prevent multiple teams working together on the same business and sharing their solutions. Additionally, having a large repository of diverse business plans will expose our students to businesses with different perspectives, such as EDI, Indigenous/BIPOC, LGBTQ+, gender, sustainability or climate issues. This approach is aligned with the UBC strategic priorities, such as embedding EDI values into all aspects of work.
